Morning Thought: The cross is an eternal mystery and divine paradox. At the cross darkness and light collide. We see man at his worst—mocking, torturing and putting to death the Messiah. We see Jesus taking the weight of the world’s sin on himself, experiencing God’s curse. But we also have the greatest display of light—forgiveness, devotion and reconciliation. On the cross light and darkness collide, and God’s light swallows up darkness with everlasting victory. The cross teaches us that God’s love and grace triumphs over the world’s hate and works. This is why we celebrate the cross. “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18, NASB).
