Invasion of Light

Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

The Secret of Strength

Morning Thought: “There is a kind of strength which does not appear till every other power has gone in. When all the common stars have gone down, the sun of this strength arises with healing in his wings” (P.T. Forsyth). “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'” (2 Cor. 12:9 NIV).

God Will Renew

Morning Thought: God, the creator of the universe, will renew your strength. “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope [wait in confident expectation] in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV).

Morning Thought: God is waiting for every member of his family to arise and shine his light. You are valuable; You have a purpose. As you arise, people from every walk of life will be drawn to Christ’s light. “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.” (Isaiah 60:1-3 NIV)

Under Great Stress

Morning Thought: When we are under great stress sometimes the worst stuff comes out of us. When Jesus was under the greatest distress the choicest of wine flowed from his lips. Prayer, worship, forgiveness, affection, love and commitment were all expressed from his seven sayings on the cross. Jesus is my hero, my model and my Savior. May we become more like him today. “Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing’ (Luke 23:34 NIV).

Burning with Social Justice

Morning Thought: The prophets’ message burned with passion for social justice. Let’s pray for our country and  churches to get this right. “Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:16, 17 NIV)

The Restless Soul

Morning Thought: Augustine prayed, “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in you.” Jesus said something very similar. Eugene Peterson paraphrases it in everyday language, “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)

Morning Thought: The Bible is not religious as most understand religion. To call it religious is to categorise, confine and censor it – to relegate it to certain groups and times. The Bible is history and literature. It’s the story of mankind with its sins and struggles. Ultimately, it’s about God who cannot be humanly defined or put into the box of religion. In this book, God is walking around calling out to man, “Where are you?” Unfortunately, mankind wants to run from this Voice, hiding behind a bush, hoping the Seeker cannot see. Because we are afraid we have banned this book, not only from secular education, but even from some churches and Christian schools. Others, like the nemesis in the The Book of Eli, want to use it to control people, distorting its message. But no matter how people use or abuse Scripture, the words of Paul ring true, “And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained.” (2 Tim. 2:9, NLT)
