Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Month: July, 2018

Pace Yourself

Morning Thought: Pace yourself so that you reach God’s destination. One of the first lessons my Dad taught me was about running. He told me to keep an even pace. “Don’t try to be first, just run at a speed that you can sustain.” When a race started, especially a long distance one, all the kids sprinted ahead of me. I kept my pace. Eventually they would all lose their steam and I’d run pass them, winning the race. Lately, I’ve been hearing God say, “Pace yourself, walk in my rhythm not the world’s.” Listen to what Jacob said, “My lord knows that the children are tender and that I must care for the ewes and cows that are nursing their young…So let my lord go on ahead of his servant, while I move along slowly at the pace of the flocks and herds before me and the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.”‭‭ (Genesis‬ ‭33:13-14‬, NIV‬‬).

The Bedrock of Blessed Relationships

Morning Thought: Yesterday Anna & I sat by the bay and brought our journals. We shared what God had been speaking to us and we were both encouraged. In a few days we celebrate nineteen years of marriage. And we can both say that putting God first, not in words only but in action, is the foundation of a lasting marriage. And not only is the living God the foundation of marriage, but of every healthy relationship. When the foundation is strong the structure built upon it survives and thrives. Jesus said, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock” ‭‭(Matthew‬ ‭7:24-25,‬ ‭NLT‬‬).

Divine Appointments

Morning Thought: On the weekend I walked into a cafe and two precious women of faith said, “Are you a pastor?” I didn’t know them, but they knew me from the internet. We had a very encouraging conversation, and in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the cafe, they offered to pray for me. We prayed and I felt strengthened. Over the years I have had many divine appointments. That’s even how I met Anna, my wife. There were about a thousand students in our Bible School and visitors were normally not allowed, but she ‘randomly’ sat next to me. She wasn’t ‘meant’ to be there; she was visiting from Australia. When you walk in faith, God orders your steps, even if you don’t realise it. It could be that God has some surprise for you today. “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:23‬, NLT‬‬).

How to Get through Rough Places (Video)

How can you get through rough places? Here’s the latest short teaching video that Gideon & I just made together. We even put in some family holiday pics :-). Enjoy!

Rough Places

Morning Thought: I just finished my morning devotions and thought God had finished speaking to me. Then I sat down and he spoke to me in a thunderous whisper, “I am making the rough places smooth.” Immediately, I looked for the verse and found it was God’s promise to Cyrus: “I will go before you and make the rough places smooth” (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭45:2‬a, NASB‬). Are there rough places in your life? These are the places your Father is running to. He actively seeks to make these places smooth, straight and level. Today, trust that the Lord is going before you.
