Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Month: October, 2013

Two Plans

Morning Thought: There are two major plans fighting for you: God’s and the devil’s. The Lord wants to bless you, but Satan desires to destroy you. Paul said, “We are not ignorant of his [Satan’s] schemes” (2 Cor. 2:11). Today, resist the enemy’s plans and embrace the Father’s purposes. “They swarmed around me like bees, but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the Lord I cut them down…Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous” (Ps 118:12, 15 NIV).

Eyes, Ears or Feet?

Morning Thought: It’s not primarily through our eyes or ears that we get God’s Word into us, but through our feet. Walk it and you will understand it. “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22 NIV)

What it Means to Be Generous

Morning Thought: A generous person is gracious with their time, words and acts of service. Generosity starts inwardly with our thoughts and attitude toward others. When we are weak and yet strengthen someone else, we ourselves will be revived. “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Prov. 11:25 NIV)

Stand Firm

Morning Thought: Stand firm! Your convictions are like a wall resisting the ways of evil into your heart. Give in to sin and you will muddy your soul and pollute the spring of your life. “Like a muddied spring or a polluted well are the righteous who give way to the wicked.” (Pro. 25:26 NIV)

A Rest Greater than Sleep

Morning Thought: In God’s presence is a rest greater than sleep and a renewal deeper than a spa. The Lord’s presence is able to turn the hardest rock into a pool and the stubbornest heart into clay. Enter into the Most Holy Place today and experience the Glory that is God. “Why was it, sea, that you fled? Why, Jordan, did you turn back? Why, mountains, did you leap like rams, you hills, like lambs? Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.” (Ps 114:5-8 NIV)

What He Said

Morning Thought: God has a history of making and keeping his covenants. We find this in the story of Abraham, Moses and David. Yahweh’s covenant history gives us strong security in his covenant with us through Jesus Christ. What he said, he will do. “I also established my covenant with them…Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.'” (Exo. 6:4-7 NIV)

A Right Attitude

Morning Thought: Respect & reverence for God is the gateway into knowing him and his Word. A right attitude towards your Creator will cause you to rightly respond to his truth and grow in wisdom and understanding. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” (Ps 111:10)
