Invasion of Light

Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Month: December, 2013

Even Though

Morning Thought: Our moods are often determined by what’s happening around us. David discovered a deeper secret to lasting peace and joy: God’s dynamic presence. “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Ps 23:4 NIV)

The Darkest Places

Morning Thought: This morning I didn’t want to read Numbers 16. It’s all about Korah’s rebellion and I’ve had to deal with enough difficult people over the years. But I read it anyway and found I was blessed. Even in the darkest places of Scripture, God can shed his light. I’m thankful that God backs up his chosen. I’m also grateful for Jesus, who like Aaron, stood between the living and the dead, and stopped the plague of sin for all who believe. “So Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly. The plague had already started among the people, but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them. He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped.” (Num. 16:47, 48 NIV)

Strength Needed

Morning Thought: God taught Joshua that strength was a core quality for leadership. Whether you are a father, mother, business or ministry leader, inner strength is needed to take hold of the Lord’s divine destiny for the people you care about. “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them” (Josh. 1:6). “I love you, Lord, my strength” (Ps. 18:1).

Holly Day or Holy Day?

Morning Thought: Holiday is made up of two words: holy and day. However, the holiness of this time is often replaced by a flurry of market activity. The day soon becomes more about ‘us’, or at worst ‘me’, and not about Him. It reminds me of what the Passover had become in Jesus’ day. “To those who sold doves he [Jesus] said, ‘Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!” (John 2:16). This year let’s stop and put the holy back into the day.

Your Life

Morning Thought: You don’t get rid of your house because a thief destroyed the lock. In the same way, we don’t throw out Scripture because legalistic and libertarian people have hijacked it for their own causes. Scripture comes from the source of Life himself. Its words are essential, foundational and bursting with creative power. “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day…They are not just idle words for you – they are your life” (Deu. 32:46-47).

The Real Enemy

Morning Thought: Remember who the real enemy is. It’s not one another, it’s Satan. Let’s direct our energy on fighting him rather than our brothers and sisters. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:10-12 NIV)
