Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Month: August, 2014

The Noisy Crowd

Morning Thought: “After the crowd had been put outside…” (Matt. 9:25). Often the miraculous does not happen until we have told the noisy crowd to leave. The crowd tells you one thing, but Jesus tells you another. The Lord says there is hope, but the crowd just laughs. Put out the voices of the crowd and let Jesus in. With Jesus, you will experience resurrection life. “When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, he said, ‘Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. News of this spread through all that region” (Matt. 9:23-26).

The Kingdom Passport

Morning Thought: Today, I’m going to an interview for my first Australian passport. It reminds me that at salvation we are immediately given a passport into God’s Kingdom. We are heavenly citizens. You now have full access to the King’s kingdom and can explore every aspect of it. Enjoy the Kingdom of heaven and take it wherever you go. Jesus said: “And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom…” (‭Luke‬ ‭22‬:‭29-30‬ NIV).

Faith in the Father

Morning Thought: Don’t allow hardship to obscure your faith in the Father’s goodness toward you. “The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing” (‭Psalm‬ ‭145‬:‭13-16‬ NIV).

Live in Harmony

Morning Thought: In Jeremiah’s day, Israel didn’t live what they confessed. They prayed one thing, but acted differently. This is a warning to us. Today, let your walk and your talk sing together in harmony. “Have you not just called to me: ‘My Father, my friend from my youth’…This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can…’Return,’ declares the Lord, ‘I will frown on you no longer, for I am faithful…I will not be angry forever” (‭Jeremiah‬ ‭3‬:‭4-5, 12‬ NIV).

Sticker Book Discipleship

Morning Thought: Last night I had a dream that someone gave me a book on discipleship. The cover looked really exciting and exhorted it’s readers to “proclaim the Gospel and make disciples.” I was very interested in learning the substance of the book. But, when I opened the book it was full of stickers. It was a sticker book. It had stickers from Biblical stories and great men of God, but there was no teaching – it was a play thing. I looked for some substance, but there was none. How many Christians today are playing around with discipleship? This is no game.

The Radiant Pearl

Morning Thought: As you walk through your field of dirt and mud, find your pearl of great price. Life is like a field and the treasure is usually hidden beneath the surface. Dig through the dirt of your troubles until you find the radiant gem that God wants to give you. Once you find it you won’t be able to contain your joy. “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it” (‭Matthew‬ ‭13‬:‭44-46‬ NIV).

Peace like a River

Morning Thought: Listening to God enables us to enter into his supernatural rest and peace. God’s peace transcends whatever circumstances you may be facing and empowers you to rise above them. Today, hear what God says: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go. If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭48‬:‭17-18‬ NIV).
