Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Month: April, 2015

Balanced

Morning Thought: Your walk with God requires balance. If you don’t have balance in your physical walk you’ll fall. The same goes with walking in the Spirit. If you weigh heavily on grace, but do not honour truth, you’ll stray from God’s way. And if you’re transfixed on truth, but forget grace is its fountain, you’ll also cause many to stumble. Let’s remember Jesus came “full of grace and truth,” and celebrate both with joy. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth” (‭John‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬ NIV).

The Wrestler

Morning Thought: Like a championship wrestler, Grace has pinned down his opponent and won the victory. Then, he did something outlandish. He gave you his trophy and listed your name as the victor. Now, you have all the benefits, privileges and favour of being a winner. That’s what the cross is all about. Today, walk like a champion, but remember, it was all grace. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭8-9‬ NIV).

Jesus Feels

Morning Thought: Jesus sees and feels your pain. His compassion wants you close to his heart. And that’s where the healing is. Like a lamb, stop running, be still and let him take you into his arms of love. “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young…When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd (‭Isa.‬ ‭40‬:‭11‬; Matt. 9:35, NIV).

The Cruelest Circumstances

Morning Thought: Your cruelest circumstances will turn out to progress God’s cause when you’re living Christ’s call. Paul was locked in prison. Yet, through his powerless position, all the guards and government heard the good news. Wherever you are, see God’s greater purpose and glory. This will fill you with joy. “Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, so that my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become well known throughout the whole praetorian guard and to everyone else” (‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭12-13‬ NASB).

Interlocking Saints

Morning Thought: When we interlock with God’s people we keep God in and the devil out. The Father had an ingenious design for his tabernacle in the wilderness. The walls were made of upright boards that interlocked through silver sockets. Each redeemed believer is like one of these boards. When you pray for and love one another, you form a wall that hosts God’s presence and secures you from the enemy’s attacks. Today, stand shoulder to shoulder with your fellow saints and be like a house that hosts God’s glory. “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭18‬ NIV, also see Exodus 26:15-25).

Guard your Head

Morning Thought: Guard your head, it’s where everything begins. Your thoughts, hearing, communications, and vision, all begin there. This is why Paul says, “Take the helmet of salvation.” Jesus’ salvation must be the beginning and head of your life. Let the thoughts of his deliverance begin you each day and cover you at night. Let Jesus’ goodness fill your thoughts, words and sight. With this helmet in place, the rest of your life will go in the right direction. “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭17‬ NIV).

You are the Equipment

Morning Thought: You don’t need lots of equipment to do God’s work. You are the equipment. It’s easy to make things more complicated than they really are. God wants to use you, rather than some thing or institution. Today, step out in faith and watch your Father work. “Don’t think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day. Travel light” (Matt. 10:9-10, the Message).
