Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Straight Outta Nazareth

Morning Thought: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Nazareth was a dump of a place. It was poor and had a horrible reputation. Yet, this was the place the Father chose for his Son, Jesus, to grow up. You may have come from somewhere that stunk like manure, but let Jesus water you, and what seemed like waste will become fertiliser. The Lord specialises in fruitfulness springing out of the most neglected soil. “‘Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?’ Nathanael asked. ‘Come and see,’ said Philip” (John‬ ‭1:46‬, ‭NIV‬‬).

Down in the Dust

Revival comes through God’s Word. Here’s a small snapshot from my poetic translation of Psalm 119 that we plan to publish in early 2016.

Imitation or Masterpiece

Morning Thought: Once you see a real Van Gogh painting, it’s hard to be satisfied with a reprint. The copy misses the artist’s detailed strokes and his vibrant use of colours. Imitations leave out the genius of the original. Today, many people read the Bible and try to copy what they read. We end up with a cheap imitation rather than the masterpiece. Instead, when hearing Scripture, let the Master himself work in you what you hear. Pray: “Master, make me into your work of art.” “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬, NLT‬‬).

Stones, Not Bricks

Morning Thought: Stone walls are different than brick walls. Bricks usually are all the same. Stones, however, are all different shapes, sizes and colours. Instead of bricks, God chooses to build with stones, “living stones” to be exact. Through Christ you are his “living stones,” different from your brothers and sisters, but chosen to be together. The man-made church is constructed through bricks of conformity, the Spirit-made church is built through stones of diversity. “You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:5‬, NIV‬‬).

You Are Not Alone

Morning Thought: You are not alone. There was a time when all of Jesus’ friends left him. Yet, he saw that he was not alone because the Father was with him. In the same way, you are not alone, especially if Jesus is living in you. “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me” (John‬ ‭16:32,‬ ‭NIV‬).‬

Set Your Sails

Morning Thought: How are you going with your morning devotional time? Morning prayer sets the sails for your day so that the wind of God’s Spirit can propel you towards your destiny. Today, set your sails high and wide. God is moving and he wants to take you with him. “The Master, GOD, has given me a well-taught tongue, So I know how to encourage tired people. He wakes me up in the morning, Wakes me up, opens my ears to listen as one ready to take orders. The Master, GOD, opened my ears, and I didn’t go back to sleep, didn’t pull the covers back over my head. I followed orders…” (Isa. 50:4-5, Message).
