Discovering God's Glory One Day at a Time

Month: October, 2014

A Scary Thought?

Morning Thought: Fingers form from the dark. A ghostly hand. No body. Its sight sends shockwaves through the king. Legs limp, knees knock. It writes! But what does it say? “King, you haven’t humbled yourself to the King of kings, so I will humble you. Your time is up.” Yes, God can be scary. But he’s not scary to the humble. Today, don’t fear the devil with his gory costumes. Fear God! “How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you” (Ps 31:19). (You can read the above story in Daniel 5.)

Even In

Morning Thought: Even in the lion’s den God is with you. The enemy may try to roll a stone over the exit to your tomb, and even seal it shut. But, you will walk out unscathed with resurrection life, marching in triumph. Why? Because God is with you. This is not your battle, it’s the Lord’s. His name is at stake, since you bear his name. All you need to do is trust him. “And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God” (‭Daniel‬ ‭6‬:‭23‬ NIV).

Flourish

Morning Thought: There’s no better place to flourish than in God’s house. Worshipping the King, hearing his voice and receiving encouragement from our spiritual family makes us stronger. An authentic church provides strong roots for your everyday life to bear good fruit. The devil delights in pulling apart healthy relationships, but God loves to bring people together. “But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good” (‭Psalm‬ ‭52‬:‭8-9‬ NIV).

Overcoming False Accusations

Morning Thought: The age old tactic of the enemy has been to falsely accuse God and his people. But you can overcome satan’s schemes by letting God’s word work in your life and putting your faith in Christ’s blood. “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death” (‭Revelation‬ ‭12‬:‭11‬ NIV).

No Worries

Morning Thought: A great teacher, Alexander Maclaren, once said, “What does your anxiety do? It does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows; but it empties today of its strength.” Here’s a simple solution to worry that Jesus taught: 1) Trust your future to the Father, 2) Seek first the Kingdom today, and 3) Receive forgiveness for your past. Today, Father, help us live worry and anxiety free. (See Matthew 6:12 & 6:25-34 for more details.)

More Than You Can Imagine

Morning Thought: The Father cares about you more than you can imagine. He sees everything that you go through. He knows all your thoughts and worries. He hears your arguments and feels your pain. And the good news: he promises to sustain his children. “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭46‬:‭4‬ NIV).
