Morning Thought: I need to keep coming back to my roots, especially now that I’m at the midway point of my life. Aleph––the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet––reminds me of this. Aleph is the beginning, and its sound is silent. It’s quiet because it waits on God and knows in its very depths it is blessed (ashrey). Every journey should begin like this: silent before God, listening for his voice and appreciating the truth that whole-heartedly following God is true happiness (ashrey). This silence is authentic strength. “How happy [ashrey] are those fully-committed to the journey, who walk in the teaching of Yahweh. How happy [ashrey] are those who guard his testimonies, with all their heart they seek him” (Psalm 119:1-2, my translation).
