Aleph: Silence is Strength

Morning Thought: I need to keep coming back to my roots, especially now that I’m at the midway point of my life. Aleph––the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet––reminds me of this. Aleph is the beginning, and its sound is silent. It’s quiet because it waits on God and knows in its very depths it is blessed (ashrey).

Every journey should begin like this: silent before God, listening for his voice and appreciating the truth that whole-heartedly following God is true happiness (ashrey). This silence is authentic strength. “How happy [ashrey] are those fully-committed to the journey, who walk in the teaching of Yahweh. How happy [ashrey] are those who guard his testimonies, with all their heart they seek him” (Psalm 119:1-2, my translation).

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from nine to twenty-two. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
