Your Shield

Morning Thought: “My shield is gripped by God, rescuer of the righteous heart” (Psalm 7:10, my translation). God is your guardian, your protection and your defense. In Psalm 5:12, David chooses to describe God’s protection as a large rectangular shield that covers the whole person (tsinah). But in Psalm 7:10, he uses another word for shield (magen). This is a smaller shield. Here God is pictured as a swift warrior, gripping a shield and running into the heat of battle to rescue those with the right heart. A right heart towards God is like a magnet that draws his rescuing power. Today, recognise that God is your rescuer, the one who runs into battle on your behalf. And also, keep a right heart toward God.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from nine to twenty-two. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
