Close to the Edge

Morning Thought: Yesterday when I got off the train, I noticed a young man sitting on the platform ledge, dangling his legs over the train tracks. He was about two meters from the stopped train in a very dangerous spot. Everybody passed by him. As I approached the young man I called out, “Are you OK?” He broke down crying, “No, I’m about to kill myself!” I gave him a big hug. Then I prayed for him, listened to him and talked with him as he sat over the edge. The whole station shut down for about twenty minutes. Soon the police came and later the ambulance. Just before the emergency crew arrived, he looked up and thanked me. I was relieved, but also I was shaken. When you care, your presence makes a difference in people’s lives, even strangers. I thank God Jesus stopped for me when I was seventeen years old too. “Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him.’ So they called to the blind man, ‘Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.’” ‭‭(Mark‬ ‭10:49‬, ‭NIV‬).

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from nine to twenty-two. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
