NY Morning Thought: My decision to come to New York and visit my dad was last minute. It was a response to what the Holy Spirit put in my heart. But I wondered if I was hearing correctly and almost cancelled the trip the day before. I had booked the tickets but not actually paid for them. No one knew our needs. A few hours before we left, I told my students that I was leaving with very few dollars in my pocket, but I hope to have a testimony when I returned. While in New York, someone out of the blue, who I had not talked to in a while, had an urgency to speak with me. They said the Holy Spirit put it on their hearts to give us a sum of money. Would you believe that this was the exact amount that we needed? And it was no small amount. Who gives? To me, giving is the greatest miracle. We love to keep things and get things. To give means sacrifice. But God has his people who give in secret—people who give not to be seen, but in obedience to the Holy Spirit. All of this reminds us that our salvation came because the Father gave his only Son. He gave fully and held nothing back. “But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private [secret], and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you” (Matthew 6:3-4, NLT).
