The Death of the Author

Morning Thought: Have you heard of Roland Barthes’ famous essay ‘La Mort de l’Auteur’ (The Death of the Author)? In it he talks about how the author’s meaning dies once his writing is published. Now the reader is god and determines the meaning, not the author. Let’s not make this mistake with God’s Word. God’s Word is married to his Person. Even more, God’s Word is himself, Jesus Christ. And ultimately, the author, Jesus, died to reclaim his Word from the religious leaders who stole it. “’Is not My word like fire?’ declares the LORD, ‘and like a hammer which shatters a rock?’” (‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭23:29‬, NASB‬‬).

I was born and raised in Long Island, New York. In 1999 I migrated to Australia, married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted a church and Bible School. We are now the proud parents of four children ranging in age from five to eighteen. We are still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
