Morning Thought: There’s a big difference between religion and relationship with God. It’s like the difference between an unhealthy and healthy marriage. Religion is like living in the same house, and working really hard to keep the house running, yet not having a deep and meaningful connection with your spouse. Your house will look good to a visitor but your spouse knows there’s no life in your marriage. Relationship with God means intimacy, connection and vibrant life. Relationship challenges you more than religion but it’s what the Father always intended. When you put intimacy with God first, then you can do the good works he has purposed. See how our Lord longed for something different than outward religious observance: “Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations— I cannot bear your worthless assemblies” (Isa. 1:13).
