Calming the Noise Within

Morning Thought: “Yahweh, no pride in my heart, no cockiness in my eyes, no strut in my step and no thought, ‘I’m a expert’” (Psalm 131:1, my translation).

We live in history’s noisiest generation. And it’s easy for the noise to get to us. But more dangerous than the noise without is the noise within—the clamour of a storm-tossed soul.

Recently, the world’s noise has been seeping into my soul’s ship. So the Lord led me to focus on Psalm 131 and write a fresh translation. In Psalm 131 we find the solution for our day, as well as our own souls. Charles Spurgeon wrote, “It is one of the shortest Psalms to read, but one of the longest to learn.”

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from nine to twenty-two. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
