The Temptation of Knowledge

Morning Thought: “We know that ‘we all possess knowledge.’ But knowledge puffs up while love builds up” (1 Cor. 8:1, NIV). Knowledge can be a dangerous thing because it can make you proud. Adam and Eve’s original sin was consuming the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The knowledge from that tree looked good and could open their eyes; however, it was the wrong kind of knowledge. Even knowledge of Scripture can make you proud if you read it the wrong way. Today, we all have knowledge. Google, YouTube and alternative news sites tempt us to eat from a tree that looks good and promises wisdom. Once consumed, you think you know more than others and can instruct the world. But be warned: only love builds up. Before you say that thing or make that post, ask yourself, “is this love motivated?” And then go one step further, asking, “Is it God’s love that is moving me or is this just something I think everyone needs to hear?” True knowledge – God’s knowledge – always leads to humility and love. Let’s shift from knowing about stuff to knowing God and his love – that’s true life.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from eight to twenty-one. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
