What’s Holding You Back?

Afternoon Thought 💭: What’s holding you back? I’ve been spending a couple of days in concentrated prayer and preparation for our church and our next semester of Bible School. As I was conversing with the Lord, I sensed the Holy Spirit give me this question for his people: What’s holding you back?

The two main obstacles he highlighted to me were fear and comfort. Fear stands like a lion blocking the path of his call. This is why God continually exhorts: “Do not fear”. Comfort causes us to permanently camp at a pleasant place rather than press on up God’s path. I’m not talking about moving house, changing churches or shifting jobs; instead, I’m talking about pursuing God and his purpose.

As our Foundation Unit begins this Monday (2 August), maybe God is calling you. Don’t allow fear or comfort to stop you from this journey. Whatever the call, let nothing hold you back from following Jesus. “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity but of power and love and self-discipline” (‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7,‬ ‭TLV‬‬).

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from eight to twenty-one. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
