Morning Thought: Have you heard of Roland Barthes’ famous essay ‘La Mort de l’Auteur’ (The Death of the Author)? In it he talks about how the author’s meaning dies once his writing is published. Now the reader is god and determines the meaning, not the author. Let’s not make this mistake with God’s Word. God’s Word is married to his Person. Even more, God’s Word is himself, Jesus Christ. And ultimately, the author, Jesus, died to reclaim his Word from the religious leaders who stole it. “’Is not My word like fire?’ declares the LORD, ‘and like a hammer which shatters a rock?’” (Jeremiah 23:29, NASB).
