Morning Thought: Be defined by Christ’s call and not by the world’s categories. Race, religion, age, gender, wealth, upbringing, health and abilities are all ways in which people categorise and put others in boxes. We are tempted to either be ashamed or take pride in these things. But Jesus calls us out of the crowd and to himself. What once defined you, no longer defines you. Christ’s call transcends these things and lifts us up to be seated with him in heavenly places. We are now a new race of people—God’s people. “But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY” (1 Peter 2:9-10, NASB).
