Morning Thought: One of my memories is of my mom helping my elderly grandmother. As my mom would take her mom in and out of the car, she would exclaim in French, “Attention!” In French it sounds different than English, and I asked my mom, “what does ‘AH-tahn-she-own’ mean?” “It means watch out, be careful,” she replied. Every time I read Jesus’ exhortation for us to “watch and pray,” I think of my mom, grandmother and the call to watch out. Jesus is calling us to attention: to be alert and watch out. It’s very easy to fall into the enemy’s traps if you don’t have a watchful eye. Jesus said, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41 NIV).
