“And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse “heavens.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.” – Genesis 1:6-8
This is how I see it. God spoke. Immediately the Holy Spirit dived into the deep like an eagle snatching her prey. Shock waves issued in every direction as the Spirit struck the waters. The effect was greater than Elijah smiting the Jordan with his cloak. The monstrous abyss broke like the Red Sea in Moses’ day, and the waters fled upwards and outwards. In one fell swoop the atmosphere was created, the atmosphere that would soon inhabit life. This was the second day.
The event of faith and surrender is just the beginning—the first “day.” After God says, “Let there be light,” he says, “Let there be an expanse.” First God gives us revelation, then God does a work of maturation—he expands and stretches us. In this next “stage” (which continues all of our life) God gives us dimension: breadth, length, height and depth. On the second day God created the heavens and this relates to how God creates the heavenly in our lives. On this day we are prophetically instructed how God will make the atmosphere of our lives (our very spirits) like the atmosphere of heaven.
Prayer: God do this work in my life. This year expand and stretch me to contain more of you. Give me breadth, length, height and depth. Do it gently and merciful because you know I’m frail, in Jesus’ name.
