Grace & Wholeness (Colossians)

Morning Thought: “Grace to you and wholeness from God our Father” (Col. 1:2b, IT). Paul reveals God’s heart and the glorious Good News in this simple greeting. Some see it as a typical epistolary greeting; I view it as something much more.

‘Grace’ – that’s what the Father wants to give us. We need grace – the Father’s empowerment and favour – every day. We can’t even begin to read God’s Word or walk in his way without grace.

‘Wholeness’ – I choose this word to highlight the Hebrew roots of the Greek word for peace (eirene εἰρήνη). Peace is not just feeling tranquil and having everything go your way. Instead, God’s peace is the wholeness the Father brings to our lives through grace. Grace and wholeness are married together; you can’t have one without the other.

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, I migrated to Australia in 1999. That’s when I married my beautiful wife, Anna, and we planted our church and Bible School. We’re now the proud parents of four children, ranging in age from nine to twenty-two. We’re still pastoring the same beautiful church, Church on the Park, in the the heart of Brisbane, Australia (https://www.brisbanefire.com). We also continue to teach our awesome students at Holy Fire Ministry Training School (https://www.holyfireschool.com). I love to write and encourage God's people. And something that many people don't know, I'm a DJ as well (aka DJ SOL Vibes).
